Foster-Family
WHO CAN BECOME A FOSTER PARENT?
Foster care is the temporary custody or guardianship of children whose parents are dead or unable to look after them.
In Malta any family, married couple, and single individual irrespective of their age, class, race and religion, can become foster carers after undergoing training, followed by an assessment, and approval by the Fostering and Adoption Panel.
There is a central government agency which licenses and monitors foster care services, Aġenzija Appoġġ.
Unfortunately, unaccompanied minors are not included in the foster care system and therefore, at least for now, no one can host them in their home.
